Junior Racing Program

LN_PROverticalRaceTeam

Young athletes in the U14 and U12 categories are invited to train with the Junior Racer program. This is a program for athletes who wish to race and want to train towards improvement in the sport. We follow Nordiq Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model and implement age-appropriate training to improve the athlete’s technical, physical and racing skills. U14 athletes compete at the Ontario Youth Championships and selected Ontario Cup races. U16 and U18 athletes (2005-2008) compete on the Ontario Cup Circuit and high-school races with the possibility of attending the Canadian Championships.

Athletes are expected to attend 3 team sessions per week that will include a combination of online strength sessions with a coach, rollerskiing and running/ski-simulation practices in the fall. Once snow falls, practices will involve skiing and strength. Athletes also follow an individualized training program on non-practice days.  We train primarily at Laurentian Nordic, Delki Dozzi Memorial Park and Kivi Park but will make use of other facilities in Greater Sudbury as appropriate.

Training Days: Monday TBD, Thursday 4:30pm, Saturday TBD
Cost: Participants must hold a Laurentian Nordic membership ($45-60) and a Kivi Park Pass if over the age of 11 ($50) and in addition pay a program fee of $250.
Expectations: All participants should own their own classic ski gear, skate gear, rollerskis (if possible) and basic weight training equipment
Start Date: Aug 22 2022
