Laurentian Nordic Ski Club gears up for 2012-2013 season:

Enhanced trails, new grooming equipment, rental gear & new website!

(Sudbury) Laurentian Nordic Ski Club (LNSC) is gearing up for the upcoming ski season with a range of new services, including enhanced trails, new grooming equipment, a wide range of rental gear and a new website to better serve members and Greater Sudbury cross-country ski enthusiasts. LNSC is a volunteer-run, community-based incorporated club offering fully groomed classic and freestyle cross-country ski trails within Greater Sudbury on the Laurentian University campus.

“Cross-country skiing is a great winter activity which can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels, contributing to a healthy community,” said Perry Sakki, club president. “Greater Sudbury residents have access to a network of national-caliber classic and freestyle trails, minutes from the downtown core. I can’t think of another city of this size with such an asset in its midst!”

Trail enhancements:

  • LNSC volunteers have put in hundreds of hours over the summer and fall to improve our trails
  • ‘Gully’, ‘Shed’, ‘Wall’ & ‘Soccer’ loops have been levelled, widened and surfaced with crusher dust for a smoother skiing surface, especially in low-snow conditions
  • additional enhancements are on-going on all other trails

New grooming equipment:

Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, LNSC has purchased a 2013 Arctic Cat Bearcat Z1XT Groomer Special snow-machine and a Yellowstone Track System 108” Ginzugroomer, for improved trail grooming capabilities and flexibility. Combined with the extensive trail enhancements, members will benefit from a superior skiing experience, even in low-snow conditions.

New RENTAL ski gear now available onsite:

Fundraising initiatives have made it possible to purchase new ski equipment to offer rental gear to first-time skiers and members wishing to try new gear. A selection of skis, boots and poles – for either classic or freestyle – will be available in a variety of sizes, for modest ‘day’ or ‘half-day’ rates. This new service will be available on weekends only at the Laurentian Stadium Chalet throughout the ski season.

New website:

LNSC has re-vamped its online presence with a content-rich website, featuring a searchable event calendar, program information, photos and a Twitter feed for up-to-date trail and club information. As well, individuals may purchase memberships directly online, via secure access to Zone 4’s nationwide club registration services.

Register before December 16 and save!

Registrations completed before December 16 will benefit from a $5 discount per person, a $20 savings for a family of four! Details available here.
